Pressure-Retarded Osmosis
Sea water is pumped into a chamber separated from fresh water by a semi-permeable osmosis membrane. Osmotic pressure increases pressure on the fresher water side which can be utilized to drive a turbine.
Reverse Electro Dialysis
A marine renewable energy technology which exchanges salt between fresh river water and saline ocean water across an osmotic ion-specific membrane to create a voltage potential. Essential a battery which uses fresh and saline water.
